- RC2 and previous - pcPuppyOS requires a root password; the username is 'root,' and you will be prompted for a password. You can choose to turn on autologin from the menu, if desired later.
- pcPuppyOS will not even try to load entirely into RAM with machines having less than 512MB RAM. Usual RAM consumption for the OS as delivered is about 36MB, until you start running applications. We suggest, even if you have more than 512MB, you still configure with pfix=noram, and not spend time and memory copying the system to RAM.
- Bootsplash requires that Grub be configured with some frame buffer; suggested choice is 640x480x64. No frame buffer will mean bootsplash will not be used. Bootsplash can also be turned off from the menu.
- In rare cases, XORG does not properly configure on installation, even though it works fine on boot from CD; use XVESA, and please report the issue on the forum, we will help you configure XORG. Or, try:
If you're in Xvesa already, go to /usr/X11R7/bin/. Delete X. Right-click Xorg and choose "link". Link it to X. Use relative when it asks.
Or, from the commandline:
rm /usr/X11R7/bin/X
ln -s /usr/X11R7/bin/Xorg /usr/X11R7/X
- The analog clock will try to position itself automatically; if you do need to move it, do so, then close it down, and reopen it from the menu Desktop-GtBasic-Analogclock. It will then stay in the position you select.
- Utility-Toggle Services allows configuration of many programs, including auto-mount of drives, startup of Conky, Sambe, ClamAV, etc.
- Winetools itself is installed, but not the Windows data (mfc40.dll and arial font). It also isn't configured. The .pet package adds those and configures Wine to how winetools likes it.
- Pebble Bootsplash: New themes can be added (in a full-hd install) by placing them in /etc/pebble/. The Pebble thread on the forum explains the format in case anyone wants to create one. For pcPuppyOS, it is best if any custom themes use 640x480 so that menu.lst does not need to be changed. It can theoretically handle any resolution as long as you set the frame buffer to at least as large as the image (too-small images are centered in a black screen). Too-large images are just cropped.
